Hospitalisation
At the Clinique Vétérinaire Universitaire, we have several hospitalization units. An intensive care unit with 24-hour surveillance and extensive monitoring is dedicated to the most critical cases. A less intensive in-patient unit is also available for animals requiring less aggressive management but continuous monitoring.
A more traditional hospital unit is reserved for stable animals recovering from surgery or requiring specific treatment or care.
We have also taken care to separate the different species. This means that cats are not housed in the same area as dogs, thus avoiding any additional source of stress.
Finally, there are more special units. Animals suffering from contagious and/or dangerous diseases are cared for in a special isolation unit, slightly apart from other hospitalized patients, to prevent the transmission of germs as far as possible.
A new padded room is also planned, dedicated to epileptic animals requiring a calm environment. This room will also prevent these animals from injuring themselves in the event of convulsions.
Pet care
Each animal's care is individualized according to the pathology it presents, and is re-evaluated on a daily basis according to its progress. This may involve checking heart rate or blood pressure, monitoring respiratory or neurological status, changing bandages, administering treatments, placing urinary or feeding catheters, administering oxygen, or carrying out additional tests during hospitalization. The students are partly responsible for caring for the animals, taking them out, feeding them and ensuring their well-being. They are surrounded by a number of veterinarians and veterinary assistants who are there to teach them the technical gestures and management of a hospitalized animal. Very close to the animals, they are often the ones you'll see bringing the animals in for visits.
Teaching
Patient care is an integral part of veterinary training. This learning always takes place under the supervision of a team of veterinarians and veterinary assistants dedicated to in-patient care. Students are also responsible for following their cases and understanding them in their entirety, preparing them for all aspects of their future practice.
Daily rounds are carried out to ensure the transition between day and night shifts. These rounds are also an ideal time for teaching, as they enable theory to be applied in practice.
Services offered
In-patient cases are managed by the relevant department (surgery, medicine, etc.) and reassessed on a regular basis. Owners receive daily updates on their pets. The CVU offers animals the possibility of 24-hour supervision by dedicated veterinarians, enabling them to intervene very quickly in the event of a problem.

Practical details
Hospital charges are in the form of a lump sum, applicable per day of hospitalization. They do not include medication or additional tests. They depend mainly on the level of supervision and care provided.
Unfortunately, for biosafety reasons, access to the various hospital premises is not possible. If you wish to visit your pet, it will be moved to a consultation room if its condition permits. You will then have a privileged moment with your pet. To ensure that your pet receives the best possible care and recovers as quickly as possible, visits are limited in time and are only authorized after consultation with the clinician responsible for your pet.
