Chemotherapy
Your pet's quality of life remains our priority. In our pets, the side effects are often temporary and not very severe compared to those encountered in human medicine. The sensitivity of animals to chemotherapy is highly variable and impossible to predict. Nevertheless, if your pet does experience side effects, every effort will be made to minimise them (e.g. regular blood tests).
The duration and frequency of chemotherapy is defined by a protocol chosen according to the cancer to be treated, your availability and your pet. It also depends on the response of your pet to the treatment; at any time the protocol can be adapted. A treatment of several months is often necessary and in some cases it will be continued for the life of your pet.
The handling of chemotherapeutic agents is toxic (carcinogenic and teratogenic); for obvious biosafety reasons, owners are therefore not allowed in the chemotherapy room. For the same reasons, strict hygiene measures must be considered at home (i.e. keeping away from small children, immunocompromised people and pregnant women).
Depending on the protocol for your pet's cancer, we can give you an approximate cost. It should be noted, however, that their preparation and administration requires special equipment and protection, which increases the price compared to the preparation/administration of other drugs.
Hospitalization and sedation are rarely required. At the end of your visit, we want your pet to feel at home.
