Ophthalmic microsurgery is a group of surgical procedures on the eye (and its appendages) performed with the aid of an operating microscope.

Thanks to our operating microscope, the specialist can operate assisted by a resident. The device features two pairs of objectives, enabling both surgeons to see the same thing with the same precision. A screen allows live visualization of the procedure. This enables students to learn specific surgical techniques, and anesthetists and OR staff to anticipate the surgeon's needs.

Examples of procedures performed at CVU:

- Lens surgery :

  • Cataract (phacoemulsification)
  • Lens extraction (dislocation)

- Corneal repair surgery (for ulcers, sequestration, lacerations, etc.)

  • Conjunctival grafting
  • Corneo-conjunctival advancement
  • Donor corneal transplantation (fresh or frozen)
  • Biomaterial grafting (amnion, biosys, etc.)
  • Keratectomy
  • Keratotomy

- Eyelid surgery: poorly implanted eyelashes (distichiasis or ectopic eyelash)

- Correction of congenital corneal anomalies: dermoid
