Clinical research into canine bronchiectasis and bronchomalacia.

Why should we do this?

Bronchiectasis (BE), bronchomalacia (BM) and the combination of the 2 (BE/BM) are chronic respiratory diseases in dogs, associated with a guarded prognosis. The pathogenesis has yet to be fully investigated. What's more, there is currently no consensus on treatment, and various empirical therapies, including antibiotics, are used, with little success.

Who does it affect?

Dogs with chronic (> 2 months) non-brachycephalic cough

Studies

  • Characterize etiology, clinical features, imaging-based features and microbiological features (bacteriology and microbiota) of the 3 entities
  • Investigate the presence of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in BE, BM and BE/BM and their potential role
  • Propose and validate clear recommendations for the treatment of these 3 entities.

Follow-up of recruited cases is offered to owners.
